How it works

Getting help takes three steps.

Our motto is the way we work with every person who calls us.

Step 1 · TodayListen

Call us or fill out the short request form. Tell us what’s going on in your own words. A real person calls you back.

Step 2 · Your first visitConverse

We sit down together for an assessment: what you’re facing, what you want to change, and what has helped before.

Step 3 · Every week afterSolve

You get a plan built around your goals, and a team that shows up for you, at home, in the community or online.

Services

Support for the whole person and the whole family.

From weekly support at home to intensive outpatient care, assessments and medication, every service starts with a plan you help write.

DBT skills group for teens

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches teens how to handle big emotions, stress and conflict, and how to make choices they feel good about. Groups meet weekly, in person or online. Parents and caregivers have their own sessions, so teens have their own space.

  • Managing anger, anxiety and overwhelm
  • Getting along at home and at school
  • Coping skills that last

Our agency has received training from a Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) approved Comprehensive DBT treatment program offering all modes of treatment (individual, skills, coaching, and consultation team).

Adults & teens

DBT program

A full DBT program for people who feel their emotions very intensely: individual therapy, skills group, phone coaching between sessions, and a consultation team behind every therapist.

DBT also helps adults living with PTSD, substance use disorders, self-harm, and mood or anxiety disorders.

Licensed counselors

Counseling

One-on-one talk therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, stress and relationship struggles, with a counselor who listens without judgment.

In your home & community

Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST)

CPST is a structured, goal-oriented service that helps people living with serious mental illness gain more stability and independence in their own communities. Our community-based professionals focus on each person’s individual mental health needs.

  • Practicing coping skills from counseling
  • Tracking symptoms and progress
  • Connecting to community resources
  • Working with your doctors and schools
Skills for daily life

Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR)

Building the everyday skills that make life work: routines, communication, social confidence, and getting back to school, work and the people you care about.

Including addiction medicine

Medication management

An evaluation of whether medication could help, prescriptions when they’re right for you, and regular check-ins to track how they’re working.

Our addictionologist also provides medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol use, including Suboxone and Vivitrol.

Clear answers

Mental health assessments

A full assessment that gets to know you and what’s going on, leads to a clear diagnosis, and ends with a treatment plan we build together, so you know exactly where you’re headed.

Several days a week

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

More support than weekly visits, while you keep living at home. IOP combines group and individual therapy several days a week for mental health and substance use recovery.

For parents & caregivers

Parenting groups

A supportive group where parents and caregivers learn practical tools for discipline, communication and staying calm under pressure, and trade ideas with other parents who get it.

Court-ordered services

Working with the courts

We provide court-ordered services and work with the courts. With your written consent, we report your progress in a timely manner, so everyone involved knows where things stand.

Coming soon

Partial hospitalization (PHP)

A structured day program for people who need more support than weekly visits but don’t need to stay in a hospital. Call to join the interest list.

Tammy Fernandez

Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Tammy.

Tammy Fernandez, LPC-S · Founder & CEO · Author

Licensed Professional Counselor – SupervisorBA Psychology, LSUMA Psychological Counseling, Nicholls StateLicensed in LA · TX · GA

I’ve always been the friend people call when life gets heavy. Somewhere along the way I realized I could do that for a living, so I did: a psychology degree from LSU, a master’s in counseling from Nicholls State, and a whole lot of listening ever since.

In 2017 I started Cross Over Therapy right here in Donaldsonville, because people in our community deserved good mental health care close to home. Today our team sees children, teens, adults and families at home, in the community, in our office and online. I still believe what I believed on day one: everyone has good in them, and nobody should have to face their battles alone.

When I’m not working, I’m a wife, a mom of two beautiful daughters, and the family’s official “let’s go try something new” person. I also wrote a book, Identifying My Superpower, which tells you I believe in your strengths even on the days you can’t see them.

If I could change one thing about the worldBeautiful weather all year, everywhere. Yes, even in August in Louisiana.

The book

Identifying My Superpower

Tammy’s book takes a fresh look at mental health. Through research and real stories, she shows the strengths that can grow out of living with a mental health condition, and invites readers to see themselves, and the people they love, through a new lens.

  • See the strengths that can come with conditions like anxiety, ADHD and depression
  • Trade shame for understanding, acceptance and resilience
  • A hopeful read for anyone on a mental health journey, and the people who support them

A companion journal is coming soon.

Questions

Good questions to ask before you start.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept Louisiana Medicaid, including Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas, Healthy Blue and Humana Healthy Horizons. We also accept commercial plans from Blue Cross Blue Shield (all plans), Aetna and Cigna, Medicare, TRICARE for military families (through Humana Military), and private pay. Not sure what you have? Call us and we’ll check for you.

What if I don’t have insurance?

You can pay privately. Call us and we’ll talk through the cost before you start.

Do you accept court-ordered referrals?

Yes. We work with the courts on court-ordered services, including counseling and parenting groups. With your written consent, we send progress reports in a timely manner.

Where do sessions happen?

Many of our services come to you, at home or in the community. We also see people in our Donaldsonville office, and some services, like DBT groups, can be done online.

How soon can I be seen?

Request services online or call (225) 264-6670. We’ll call you back to talk through what you need and set up your first visit.

How long will services last?

It depends on your goals and what your plan approves. We check progress together and adjust as you go.

Will I have to take medication?

Not necessarily. You and your counselor will talk through your situation and make a plan that makes sense for you.

What if my counselor isn’t a good fit?

Tell us. We’ll do everything we can to match you with someone else on our team, or connect you with another trusted provider.

Is what I share kept private?

Yes. Privacy is the foundation of good therapy. We don’t share your information without your permission, except where the law requires it to keep someone safe.

What if I need to cancel?

Please let us know at least 24 hours ahead so we can offer the time to someone else.
